Fitness Is The Key To Overall Wellness

Written by Terry Linde

If you want to achieve overall wellness, then you have got to know that fitness is the essence of it. Unlike the popular perception that attaining fitness is very difficult, the fact is it is easy when done correctly. Body posture does not explain how fit someone is. The fact is those that look fit might not be the one who impresses you with his or her fitness levels. So, it’s pointless to have unrealistic views about fitness. As far as fitness is concerned, your physical appearance is not the primary issue but the health of your heart. Probably, it doesn’t mean that you are not fit because you lack a typically “fit” looking body. You can be fit irrespective of the way your body looks.

Why is fitness important?

The importance of getting regular exercise to stay fit is very important more than ever as most Americans today leading sedentary lifestyles. Regular exercise and increase your cardio fitness can help you decrease your risk of many diseases. This includes heart disease, diabetes, stroke, and colon cancer which are the leading cause of death in the United States. Keeping fit will not only help you increase lung capacity, but it will also help you get more oxygen to your brain more efficiently. People also believe that exercising only help control their weight but it can also help them improve joint health and flexibility as well. All these effects combine to help to reduce the effects of aging on our bodies and add years to your life.

In addition to the benefits of keeping fit, it also comes with many mental benefits as well. Exercise is capable of releasing endorphins into the bloodstream which in the long run can help elevate moods and reduce overall stress. People who exercise on a regular basis generally have better self-esteem and attitude toward life, and it can also have a positive impact on mild depression. Keeping fit tend to help you sleep better at nights, have more energy throughout the day and have better memories.

Another, rather unexpected, benefit of keeping fit is that it satisfies another basic need because of many people workout in groups… human connection. Even if exercise only takes place once in a while with other people, and this also has some benefit it does for mental health benefits.

The amount of exercise to stay fit

Well, there is no particular answer to this as many people give a different answer concerning this – but exercising regularly is the best strategy. But what is the right exercise period? Well, 30 minutes a day would be more than enough. And if you can extend to an hour, then it is better. Some people would suggest that doing exercise 5 times a week is a good strategy. Exercise is like drinking your favorite shot. Your brain gets addicted to the feel-good hormones and craves for it every day.

Being active and fit is so essential to overall wellness. The benefits can be noticed very quickly after beginning, especially the mental health benefits!
