Hair Transplant or Hair Transplant Procedures

In a world where things in the past were impossible and considered impossible for the future, science has now made them possible. Medical science is one of the most beneficial fields and gives its outcome to the people. The diseases which were impossible to treat can now be treated in a much more effective manner.

Medical Perspective of Hair Loss

Hair loss is one problem that people are still facing in the modern world. There are many causes of hair loss, but genetics is one of the major factors. Baldness is a sex-limited disease that affects males more than females. Males can get the pattern of baldness or complete baldness if they have received the baldness gene from either of their parents. While the females gain the disease only if they have received it from both parental genes. These conditions are rare, but hair loss procedures are there to cope with these challenges.

Types of Hair Transplant Procedures

There are many types of hair transplant procedures used for the restoration of the scalp, beard, eyebrow, or body hair transplants. These types include:

1- Follicular Unit Transplant

2- Follicular Unit Extraction

3- Hybrid Hair Transplant

4- Robotic Hair Transplant

5- Laser Hair Transplant

6- Platelet Rich Plasma hair therapy (PRP)

7- Neo graft Hair Transplant

Although the basic technique and outcome are the same for all procedures, they differ a bit in their procedures.

Follicular Unit Transplant

In FUT, the surgeon cuts a strip of skin, having many hairs and implants that strip the bald area.

The major drawback of the technique is that it leaves a linear scar on the skin.

Follicular Unit Extraction

The surgeon extracts the follicles from the donor area, full of hair follicles. They separate these follicles under the microscope. There are tiny holes made in the patient’s recipient area using microneedles and this is where the follicles are implanted. It is one of the best treatments considered.

Hybrid Hair Transplant

This technique is a combination of both FUT and FUE. The skin strip, full of hair, is cut and then the follicles are extracted just like FUE. The follicles are then implanted in the bald area, just like FUE.

Robotic

In this case, robots perform the surgery. The ARTAS system, installed in the robots, detects the different areas and then implants the hair to the recipient site.

Laser Hair Transplant

This technique is the same as the FUE, but then a finely focused beam of light is used to create tiny holes in the recipient area. The Laser replaces the microneedles used in the FUE.

Neo graft

It is also one of the latest techniques in which an instrument called a wand is used to extract the follicles from the donor area. This is a vacuum-assisted technique in which the hair follicles are extracted and transplanted into a vacuum environment. The biggest advantage of this technique is that the hair follicles get little damage during the whole procedure.

PRP Hair Therapy

PRP hair loss therapy is also considered one of the best hair-loss therapies. This is done in various steps. First, the medical personnel takes the blood sample of the patient using phlebotomy procedures. In the second step, they extract the Plasma from the blood. The blood is taken into the heparinized vial and is centrifuged for almost 10 minutes in a centrifuge machine.

After this procedure, the blood gets separated into different layers. The heavier blood cells settle down while the lighter content gets to the upper layer, including the platelets.

The top layer is the platelet-poor plasma layer. Below this layer, the platelet-rich plasma layer is present, which is of concern in this treatment. There are also some other blood constituents present in this layer, including platelet-derived growth factors, vascular endothelial growth factors, keratinocyte growth factors, and some other material. The medical personnel extracts this layer in a syringe.

The next step is the administration of plasma in the dermal layer of the skin using microneedles. The surgeon applies the local anesthetic such as Lidocaine gel or any other anesthetic before delivering the plasma to the patient’s scalp so that the patient does not feel any discomfort or pain during the procedure.

Research also has shown that the administration of platelet-rich plasma to the bald area has a higher growth rate than the other areas. Therefore, PRP is one of the best procedures used for hair restoration there is no incision in this procedure and the recovery rate is much faster than the other procedures.
